What is Eskrima?
Eskrima is the Filipino art of self defense with a stick and/or knife.
The word "Eskrima" is derived from the Spanish word "Eskrima" which means fencing. Eskrima practitioners learn how to use a single stick, two sticks, or any bladed weapon to defend themselves with a wide array of strikes, blocks, and counters. We practice stick against stick, stick against empty hand, and blade fighting.
We also practice the art of Eskrido. This art is a culmination of Eskrima, Judo, and ju-jitsu. Founded by Grand Master Cacoy Canete, Eskrido blends the striking and defense ability of Eskrima with take-downs, joint locks, chokes, and throws.
Our instructor Bkjn. Dan Haney is a 4th degree black belt in the art of Eskirdo under the founder of Eskrido Grand Master Cacoy Canete. GM Cacoy is the founder of Cacoy Doce Pares, the most popular Filipino martial art in the world. Doce Pares, literally means “12 pairs” named after the 12 Canete brothers that originated the art with their Father in 1932. Grandmaster Cacoy was the youngest of these brothers. GM Cacoy Canete is now 88 years young and still teaching all over the world. He is the oldest living Filipino grandmaster. GM Canete comes to our school personally to teach a 2 day seminar every year. (past 6 years) You won’t want to miss an opportunity to train with a true living legend of martial arts. For more info on the seminars, see your instructor. For more information and fascinating history on GM Cacoy Canete or Eskrido visit:www.DocePares.com!
At our school we teach Eskrima twice per week to teens and adults. Call today to learn how you can join us!
